The wine Vidigueira Alicante Bouschet, launched for the first time in 2015 by the Winery of Vidigueira, has been surprising the sector’s specialists, who have successively awarded this single variety.
The recognition does not come to Portugal this time, for the XIII Wine Encounter of Alentejo/Extremadura, annually promoted by the Portuguese and Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry and by Junta de Extremadura through Extremadura Avante, Vidigueira Alicante Bouschet won another gold medal.
These encounters of wines from Alentejo and Extremadura gather producers from both cross-border regions from Portugal and Spain and contribute to closer ties between regions and also to promote internationalization.
Ever since it reached the market by the end of September, Vidigueira Alicante Bouschet has already won silver and golden medals in several national competitions such as Fijev Vinipax (87,2 points), the “Best wines from Alentejo” prize from the Confraternity of the Wines Experts of Alentejo (gold), the Crédito Agrícola’s Wine Competition (silver) and the “Best Buy” seal from Revista dos Vinhos (16,5 points).
Regarding the news of another award for this wine, José Miguel Almeida, President of the Winery of Vidigueira and one of the great defenders of this variety’s production in the wine region of Alentejo, says he is «truly satisfied with the success reached so far with Alicante Bouschet. It was a bet we made and it is becoming a great achievement for the Winery and for the wine region of Vidigueira to obtain this visibility and affirmation of its features and potential», he adds.
In this Iberian competition, five wines were distinguished in five categories, 25 wines with the symbols Golden Arabel, Silver Arabel and honorable mention, to which was added a special mention, organic wines produced in Alentejo.
