Our Winery has always had the primary purpose of integrating itself into the communities it serves, and from which it receives recognition for its work. Thus, and among many other initiatives, it has associated itself with various cultural, associative, sports and economic entities.
During 2017, promotional partnerships were supported and established with around 112 entities. This support is part of the winery’s social responsibility, reinforcing its impact on the environment and making a decisive contribution to the development of territorial cohesion.
The partners of the Vidigueira Shooting, Hunting and Fishing Club, the Vidigueira Vasco da Gama Football Club and Quinta do Carmo.
The members of the Vidigueira Shooting, Hunting and Fishing Club carry out important hunting activities, such as controlling species or maintaining the ecological balance. Many of them are members or workers of the Winery. The partnership between the ACVCA and the CTCPV supports nature, hunting heritage and offers better conditions for this activity.
Vidigueira Vasco da Gama Football Club is the most important sports association in the municipality of Vidigueira. The ACVCA is a sponsor of the club and is present at its most important moments. We highlight the decision to create the “Wine of Champions”, at the time of the victory of the 1st division District Championship, in the 2017/2018 season, in senior football.
Seeking to articulate with entities in the region, the Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito Winemaking Cooperative, has a partnership with the Vidigueira Motorcycle Group, which holds every year, at the end of August, a motorbike concentration.
This concentration is one of the largest in the country, and attracts to the region tens of thousands of motorcyclists who enjoy a great and unique entertainment programme that weekend. Winery is one of the sponsors of this great motorcycle event.
Quinta do Carmo, or Convent of Nossa Senhora das Relíquias, is part of the local religious and cultural imaginary. It is noteworthy for its importance as one of the best convents in the region, but also because it was here that D. Vasco da Gama, 1st Count of Vidigueira and 1st Admiral of India, was buried in 1539.
Today it belongs to the Maia e Silva family and it was here that the 1498 – Grande Reserva was launched. A top wine, with a production of 1498 bottles that celebrates Vasco da Gama’s arrival in India.
The Choir Group of the Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito Winemaking Cooperative, the first in the country, arose spontaneously in 2013 from the members and workers of the Winery. The enhancement of “Cante”, a world heritage song often sung around wine, is typical of the Alentejo, and makes its ethnic richness and its own identity known to the country and the world.
“Supporting those who help us” has been one of the hallmarks of the Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito Winemaking Cooperative. It is essential to have a close relationship with the communities and social welfare and health entities in the region. In this sense, the support given to the Fire Brigades is seen as fundamental for the support they provide to the population.
