BRANDY TURNS INTO A DISINFECTANT GEL
The Cooperative Wine Cellar of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito has successfully completed tests on a solution of Antiseptic Gel, in order to support the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo.
A partnership between the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo (ULSBA) and the Cooperative Wine Cellar of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito (ACVCA), allowed the creation of an alcohol-based Antiseptic Gel, from the Aguardente Vínica, for hand disinfection.
Having the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital as a priority destination, in order to guarantee the existence of Disinfectant Gel in all essential spaces, the Winery used a production formula recommended by the World Health Organization, adjusting it to its reality. This process was coordinated by the Technical Department of the Winery, and accompanied by the President of the Winery, José Miguel Almeida.
“These days we have to do what is most necessary to help the country, and realizing that the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo was having difficulties in obtaining Antiseptic Gel, we immediately started trials for its production” says José Miguel de Almeida.
Manuel Soares, Executive Director, on behalf of the Board of Directors of ULSBA, praises the important contribution and solidarity shown by ACVCA. “The alcohol-based antiseptic solution (SABA) is a developed preparation for hand decontamination that, along with other means and care, is essential in controlling contagion and protecting professionals and patients. At this difficult time, the monthly consumption has tripled, so it is very difficult to find answers on the market, and this partnership is essential and an oxygen balloon in obtaining this essential product.
Luis Morgado Leão, ACVCA’s winemaker, reveals that this product was developed “through controlled quantities of Glycerin, Hydrogen Peroxide and Wine Spirit, with which it was possible to create an effective Antiseptic Gel that respects the norms of Quality and Safety.
