“CUBA TERRA WITH SOUL”, THE WINERY’S NEW RELEASE

It was at the 86th Annual Fair of Cuba that the Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba e Alvito launched the wine named “Cuba – Terra com Alma” (Cuba – Land with Soul). It is the result of a partnership established between the ACVCA and the Municipality of Cuba, and pays tribute not only to the town but above all to all Cubans who for centuries have been involved in the production of grapes on their land, and many of them also in making carved wine.

José Miguel Almeida, ACVCA’s president, was involved in this goal from the very first moment. He states that: “the idea was already a few years old, and it is a joy and a satisfaction for us to have reached this result. With the mayor, Dr. João Português, we established the bases of this common project from which the wine Cuba Terra com Alma was born.

The Cuba Terra Com Alma white wine includes the Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro grape varieties, and the tasting note says it has “an intense aroma of tropical fruit. In the mouth it is very fresh, with citrus notes. Long, persistent and very fresh finish.” The red was produced with Trincadeira; Syrah and Alicante Bouschet, and the tasting note mentions having an “intense aroma of red fruits with notes of vanilla and cocoa. In the mouth it is extremely full-bodied with the fruit and the wood where it was aged in full harmony. Long and very full-bodied finish.”

The presentation and launch of this new product of the Winery took place on August 29, in the Pavilion of the Cooperative Winery of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, in the space of Taberna Alentejana, recreated in the enclosure where the Annual Fair of Cuba took place, and where everyone present could taste the new wine, soon after the opening of the FAC.

The responsible for the creation of Cuba Terra com Alma was the ACVCA’s winemaker, engineer Luis Morgado Leão, who said at the wine launching session: “The lands of the Vidigueira sub-region, where the entire Municipality of Cuba is located, are among the most suitable for planting and developing vineyards. It was therefore with grapes from many producers of the Municipality of Cuba, that we made these wines, honoring the greatest Cuban wine traditions.”
